Did we get screwed?

So I just heard that next year, The University of California at Berkeley (less formally known as Cal) will be something like 5000 more transfers than they will this year (thanks to an enormous grant). Which only leaves me feeling regretful that I wasn't born a year later.

Has anyone else heard this?

5000 more just cause of a grant? That sounds like a bunch of BS. A grant isn't going to give them more land or classroom space or dorms. And for 5000 people too...that's a lot of land and resources.

I don't know if it's true, but I don't think it is.

if it IS true, i shall apply :]

edit: NOPE just called and checked sorry fools it aint true

Can we please avoid ridiculous info on CC; things are getting out of hand these days.

In Fall 2005, 2760 students were admitted TOTAL. Imagine adding 5000 (almost 200%) to that!

Let's do a double take before we post things.

sorry gabe. just wanted find out if anyone else heard the same.

(and i'm not stating it as a fact, I just was inquiring!)

damn dude...just chill...someone was asking if anyone else has heard this, which is a legitimate thing, so nina, you have absolutely nothing to be sorry for. and this IS what CC is for anyway, so just chill the **** out and stop trying to make ppl feel stupid for posting things they heard or for answering other ppl's questions

nina, i did not hear anything about it. if i see anyting in the Cal newspaper, i'll post...but as of now..i didn't hear of such thing. is that your first choice?

hm..I heard that it was around 1000 more.

5000 more is ridiculous berkeley is crowded as it is.

what is true is that thanks to the govenator, he increased the UC systems budget by 7.4 %, last year he increased it by 3%, and there were more admits, so the same should follow this year

haha thanks cal_girl. And yes, Cal is my top choice (for now).

I was also suprised by the out-right rude comments. It seems like people enjoy putting others down.

Dumbasses.

/hypocrisy

It seems like people enjoy putting others down. Dumbasses.

How ironic. You are the only person in this thread who put someone down ("dumbasses"). I never intended my words to be seen as some kind of "attack." We are in college; let's get over the childish thought that a refutation of a statement is a personal attack. I appreciate Nina's contributions to the forum, as I have for the entire time I have been posting on here (almost a year).

Oh well, you know what they say about cheese.

it tastes good?

A lot of your replies on this forum seems like rude comments to me and I'd make a bet that I'm only one of many that feels that way. I've also noticed that when someone does point it out that you start many arguments on the forum with your rude comments, which is true, and which you probably know is true, you stray away from the argument and don't reply to it. "We're in college", if you know you're wrong, learn how to say sorry.

IamAPPREHENSIVE, you have posted on here 74 times; I have spent endless hours helping people on this forum; I don't blame you for not understanding that, as you are a novice. I don't reply often because I want to avoid wasting space with useless back and forth, and I don't feel the need to reply to ridiculous, baseless personal attacks. That is not what this board is for. And with that, I hope we can put this to rest. I don't plan to respond to any more of these.

But by the way, what are you talking about "being wrong and saying sorry?" This is why this is an utter waste; do you even know what the subject was? We have strayed into useless discussion.

Useless discussion?
I think Gabe lost this one.

Yes it was ironic. Hence why the phrase that you coincedently didn't include in your misquote included "/hypocrisy".
I would have used a simpler word had I known there were people who couldn't comprehend.

I've actually been here almost as long as you. Look at when I joined, 2 months after you. It doesn't mean that if I don't post that I don't know what I'm talking about all the time and at least I'll admit when I'm wrong. Next, you're still waiting for your own transfer replies and you've replied with wrong info many times so I don't get why you have to be rude to others when they do the same thing. If I remember correctly, back in July when I joined, you posted that "California junior college transfers don't get priority over incoming highschool freshmen", those weren't your exact words but that's pretty much the gist of it. That's not the only time you've given wrong information either and you rarely apologize or correct yourself when you do.

Yes, I know what the topic was about, it's about Nina's question on more space for transfers for 2007 applicants and you replying with a rude comment. In the end you were wrong again and you were rude while you were at it. What am I talking about "being wrong and saying sorry?" You were incorrect up there again, and you're not going to admit it just like always, but you probably will now since I mentioned it. Nina may have had exaggerated information but it wasn't wrong. Stop having such a large ego and think you're mature just because you think these posts are "utter wastes". In my opinion, posts with incorrect information such as yours are more useless.

I understand when you say the topic has strayed into useless discussion, but someone has to teach you some manners and to respect others.

YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION TO THE FORUM.

Go through my posts and find the times I have been wrong: seriously, show me even one flagrant case! "California junior college transfers don't get priority over incoming highschool freshmen" doesn't even make sense--what are you talking about? Incoming high school freshmen? Transfers vs. freshmen?

And I was not wrong on this thread. The actual number of the increase was ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY! Quite a bit different than 5000! My point was there was no conceivable way in the universe that it could be 5000; I never negated a small increase.

You made claims about my posts that are patently false, backed up by nothing.

This forum isn't about teaching manners or respecting others; it's about requesting and receiving important information. The last thing anyone needs on this board is someone who can be their mother.

Frankly, I am deservedly upset that after so much service to this board, after providing useful answers to so many transfers, I would be so ridiculously attacked for being "wrong" when I wasn't even involved.
