<p>I used mine to get out of boring gen ed classes. Didn’t have to take a fine arts class because of Art History, no 300 person Intro History class, got rid of one of my lab requirements, and skipped a semester of freshman English. Definitely worth it. I got to register earlier, more flexibility with my classes, etc.</p>
<p>At my UC, many of my APs counted for a certain amount of units but didn’t allow me to skip an actual class. Still, they gave me enough units to become a sophomore after one quarter, which means I get priority enrollment for classes—very useful. I was also able to skip a few GEs.</p>
<p>@JDE1221 If you’re concerned about being housed with upperclassmen, you can just let the housing office know that you’d prefer to room with a first-year if it happens. It’s generally not that hard to transfer rooms.</p>
<p>The majority of my AP courses were considered (and were) below the level of introduction courses at my school, so I received placement for Calc I and Calc II. If I had wanted to, I could use my Latin scores to graduate a semester early, but they don’t replace any classes.</p>
