Got an email yesterday that said:
"We are happy to inform you that you have secured housing at the
University of Florida for the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 semesters!

Room and roommate assignments for the coming year will be
available the last week in June for 95% of our incoming freshmen
residents. The other 5% will be assigned space as cancellations
occur between late-June and mid-August.

Should you also have a contract with us for the Summer B 2006
contract period, you will receive another email within the next
24 hours.

We sincerely hope that you choose to attend the University of
Florida and live with us for the coming year. Go Gators!

Sincerely,
Assignments Office
Department of Housing and Residence Education
University of Florida"

If you didn't get this you should check with the housing office.

We will thrilled to hear that we will be told the room and roommate assignment the last week in June (instead of July, when we will be vacationing). Very exciting. Does anyone know how much it costs to rent the minifridge?

No, it only means the your son got a spot in housing. Its doesnt mean you got you first preference. Your son could possibly get second or third choice or even temp triple or permanant triple. With your priority date the latter isnt really likely.

Permanent triples are not common but are a possibility if you have a late priority date. On my floor freshman year we had 3 permanent triples out of 25 rooms and 2 temp.

My son is going to Summer B, and he got his third choice of dormitory. His priority date is October 5. I think that most of the kids attending Summer B are 'early decision' applicants and that his October 5 priority date is probably a late date. Many of the early decision students began applying in August and September of 2005.

Uh oh. He got his third choice with a Oct. 5 priority date?! My D is starting in Fall (with an Oct. 12 priority date). I don't think that she really gave much thought to her third choice of dorm (I think she put Mallory...for location?) She really wants to be in the Broward area for its proximity to her classes (which will be in the business school area, Turlington and maybe the Com/Sci/Eng building) and the social aspect. I will def. have her rethink her choices before the June 1 deadline for requests.

My son got Jennings for Summer B semester, but he hasn't gotten his Fall semester assignment. For Summer B, they had only 3 or 4 choices, because the other dorms were being renovated, or being used for Preview, or for summer conferences on campus. Everyone at our Preview was registered for Summer B and most were 'early decision' students. Many had priority dates much earlier than my son's date of October 5.

I think it will be a completely different picture when they assign Fall semester dorms. All the dorms will be available for assignment, and kids with October prioritiy dates I think (hope) will have a better chance of getting their first or second choices. That's just my opinion though, and you should do what you feel is the right thing to do.

What about honor class students who put their first choice as Hume. My S is one such student and his priority date is 1 Jan. Chances of landing Hume good then?

I forgot to mention that my S starts in the Fall. With his priority date at 1 Jan, is it a safe bet to say that he will be given Hume, his first choice?

Gatordan-
You received your priority number in the email from the Dept. of Housing and Residence Education that said "Application for Campus Housing" on the top. It also said "Congratulations! You have successfully applied for campus housing at the University of Florida." It was the email that you got after you had submitted a credit card online for the $25 application processing fee. On this email is your credit card confirmation number, your housing transaction number and your Priority date. It also said to "print this page for your records".
