but still got into the school you applied to?

Yes, I did! I applied for transfer to UW-Madison after I had only been in college for one semester. My first-semester freshman GPA was 3.9 on 17 credits, but my high school record was HORRIBLE (2.8 GPA, bottom half of class, habitual truant, GED recipient). My only saving grace from high school was my 34 on the ACT; I just didn’t apply myself in HS. Anyway, I got in! My second semester wasn’t as good as the first–only a 3.5 on 15 credits–but they finalized my admission and I’m enrolling this fall!

(Madison seems to place less emphasis on the high school record than a lot of other schools; I have noticed that with other transfer applicants I have talked to as well as myself.)

P.S. I transferred from UW-Eau Claire.

I think I may be a little different for a transfer student. I had a very strong HS GPA but my college GPA wasn’t stellar. I personally felt when I applied that I wouldn’t get in anywhere because I had not improved since HS and I was competing with individuals who had very, very strong college GPAs (which I felt, in comparison, was more impressive than my HS GPA)

Much to my surprise, my 2nd and 4th choice schools accepted me! One a top LAC and the other a top university.
