<p>I read on here about bringing enough clothes to last for two weeks and then deciding from there and all that good stuff, but watching my three suite mates lug all of their stuff in, I feel like I didn't bring enough. I had no clue what the room would look like (two of the suite mates got the bigger room. They can even fit a ****ing futon in there--lame), but I still loaded up my mom's Mariner to the point where she was folded up in the back, too. </p>
<p>But they just brought crap loads of stuff. Loads of pop, food, clothes, etc. I'm more of a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so I was fine with the clothes that I brought, especially since I plan on buying more stuff online, but good God almighty, they have so much ****. The bigger room is filled to the brim with stuff, and if my roommate unloaded another suite case of clothes, I think my head would have exploded. She even brought her winter clothes like sweaters, three pairs of boots, etc. It's insane. </p>
<p>I'm the only one that's never stayed in a dorm before, so I didn't know what to expect. It's CRAZY. But, I did also come in with the plan to buy new clothes online when I wanted to/had the money and my mom's already talking about mailing me new shoes and jeans, Ramen, cereal even though I've only been here since Wednesday.</p>
<p>How much new stuff did you guys get during the year? I don't plan on doing any shopping down here because the shops are crazystupid overpriced and I'd die before I spent $70+ on a pair of jeans or something.</p>
<p>^My stuff fit in our car and a small trailer to move here, and it all fits in my dorm room, bathroom locker, and music locker on campus, and my dorm is only 10x15ft and I got it all in there with a roommate too. It all depends on how you organize your dorm if you want to get a lot of stuff in.</p>
<p>Out of my two other roommates, I live closer to home than they do so I guess bringing a lot of things isn’t necessary for me since I can just ask my parents to drop things off on the weekends. I’m a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl too so I don’t have a ton of clothes to bring to begin with. I plan on shopping more later in the year (or this week … my last week before I go off to school. I’m a late shopper …)</p>
<p>I brought a trunk, one of those big tubs, a tub for under the bed, two suitcases (one larger one and another smaller one), a duffel bag for shoes, and a few store bags of stuff. And a bookbag for school supplies and one of those small crate things and that’s about it. When I moved in, one of the guys asked if I had packed my entire life up (but if I did, it def would have included my queen sized bed instead of this little twin).</p>
<p>@Haute- that’s too minimalistic. A small car and a small trailer seems about right, if not a touch overkill, but definitely not too drastic. OP, I really wouldn’t compare yourself to your roommates. The first one I had was ridiculous with the amount of crap she had, and I had a small fraction of that and did just fine :)</p>
<p>What you brought is probably fine. A lot of people overpack, and it sounds like those other people are no exception. You’ll have the last laugh when it takes them a month to pack all that ***** up at the end of the year.</p>
<p>I brought most everything of my clothes that’s going to be here because I’m far enough away that I brought winter clothes and everything right away. I brought 2 suitcases, 1 duffel bag, and a couple other small things of clothes. Also, the reason for the trailer was that I brought most of the shared stuff for our room, like the fridge, clothes drying rack, file cabinet, food storage stuff, and some food and other random stuff.</p>
<p>The tub and stuff was for like washing detergent, bleach, my printer, etc. The suite cases were for clothes and it only took a second to unpack it all. Watching them unpack it and the three tubs her parents took back makes e think it’s going to take forever to pack it up because she’s gonna have to wait for her parents to bring them back to pack it all away.</p>
<p>I wish I had brought a U-Haul trailer. That way I could’ve fit my bike in there. It’s gonna take forever walking from point A to point B.</p>
<p>^No, it’s really just a little dresser-type looking thing with 6 small drawers, I just call it a file cabinet thing because it can hold important papers like that.</p>
<p>I rented a small truck to bring my stuff my second year-- my first year I brought a little bit less but my grandma and aunt had to come with us because my stuff wouldn’t fit in our ford fusion, it was divided between a fusion and an explorer. My room wasn’t crowded with stuff, but I’m extremely organized so it was easy to keep things clutter free-- and I buy literally nothing during the year or have anything shipped to/from home, my parents don’t allow that. I’m a nester, what can I say. I spent virtually all my time in my room or in class, I wanted it to be comfortable and I wanted fun stuff to do there. If I was going to live there for nine months I wanted it to feel like home, and my dorm functioned essentially as a mini apartment. Some people aren’t like that. If you aren’t, be glad, bringing that much stuff is a pain in the ass at move in and move out. It took me two months to get unpacked this summer when I moved back home. (Definitely did not take me that long to unpack when I moved into the dorms, btw!)</p>
