So when I was filling out my housing application, it stated that "For the best chances of a housing offer, choose "any room size - any location" as one of your preferences. Failure to do so will void the housing guarantee."

Well...I didn't choose "any room size - any location" because I heard that even if you don't choose "any room size - any location" you will still be placed in a housing option. For example, you could choose Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Clark Kerr, and Foothill....but they'll end up putting you in Stern. (Yes I am aware that housing is by lottery)

But now I'm a little worried!!!

If I didn't choose "any room - any location" as one of my housing preferences, will I be assigned to a room/location that was not on my preferences? Will my housing guarantee be void?

Can any current Berkeley student who did not choose "any room - any location" confirm that their housing guarantee was not void?

are you serious? can you not read? they state on numerous, that's **NUMEROUS **pages that not choosing any size any location voids your guarantee. void means no longer good. no longer good, means you are not certain to get housing.

two people i know from three or four years back didn't check it, and sure enough, they didn't get housing. they had to find an apartment their freshman year. if i were you, i'd look for an apartment right now... those are going fast

Basically what it means is that when your lottery number comes up, they will see if your 1st option is open. If not, they see if your second option is open and so on. If none of your options are open, they will not offer you ANY contract. If you did select it, they would have given you an offer somewhere that was still open.

Your contract is not voided, you guarantee of getting housing is voided.

So as long as you did not pick all super-popular sports or get unlucky and get a bad lottery spot, you have a pretty good change of getting a contract considering most people do get one of their options.

thanks? don't know if that's sarcastic or not...

seriously though... not selecting "any size, any location" despite being told numerous time is just plain stupid. that's like sticking your tongue into an electric outlet even after somebody tells you not to: 100% idiotic

I believe you still have a small period of time to change your application due to the new application system they put into play this year. Go back to the housing application site and log in and change your #5.

You can't "appeal" but can you pester them to try to find an open spot?

And shadow2, isn't sticking your tongue into an electric outlet even if no one tells you not to 100% idiotic? Adding that someone is telling you not to seems like overkill.

sheesh.. u guys are harsh.. the poor gal here needs help or advice.. not scolding!! she is scared enuf..

juz call n do everything u can to find out more. from there, determine ur course or action. but shadow2 is right abt the backup apt.. better b safe than sorry.

"Worrying is like a rocking chair, gives u smthing to do but dun get u anywhere. Write that down"
