No one here can tell you whether or not you can do 30% of a yearlong course in 2 weeks… or whether your estimate of how much you’ve done is accurate.
It’s absolutely possible to understand Algebra II without having finished Geometry— just make SURE you have a sold understanding of the Special Triangles, Similarity, and Trigonometry.
Whether or not you’ll be able to take Algebra II without evidence that you’ve passed Geometry is a matter you need to take up with your guidance counselor.
You will not be kicked out of algebra 2. If you have already finished the fist segment, take the transcript to your guidance counselor and he/she can put you directly into Alg 2. But by then, you can hopefully finish segment 2 and take both segment one and 2 transcript to guidance so it will be accredited to you and you can take the EOC.
It depends on many things. Where are your taking geometry now? When did the class start? When it’s supposed to end? Is it a summer school class? Online class? How strong is your math ability? What grade did you get in algebra 1? Some summer schools teach classes in just 3 weeks (but the students are very strong).
@Nkemdirim I’ve taught math in my school for 25 years. I was department chair for 9 of those years. And I can tell you with absolute certainty that that’s NOT what would happen in my school.
Each school is different. Only the OP’s guidance counselor can say for sure what will happen in his school.n
Our school offers summer, on-line geometry and the entire class takes 4 to 5 weeks, so yes, I would say you can do 30% in two weeks. However, that’s an instructor-led course with daily quizzes and tests. Are you doing a self-paced class in which you fell behind?
Sorry to everyone that I wasn’t able to answer before!
I’m entering freshman year and I’m doing the class on ALEKS. As of now, I’m 80% through the course.
I’m decent at math (I got a 102 average in Algebra 1). I’m not behind, I’m ahead of the pace that I’m supposed to be at. I don’t know why I’m worrying, because Geometry isn’t even a pre-requisite for Algebra 2 at my school.
I have around 80 subjects left to do and about 9 days to do them. I feel as though I can complete it, but it’s been chaos this past week- my sister’s birthday and her getting ready for college and stuff, and I have a job that works me from 8AM-5PM with my dad where I don’t have access to the internet.
I would talk to my guidance counselor, but there’s been a bit of a problem- we don’t have one.
The previous guidance counselor resigned a week or two ago and we haven’t hired a replacement yet. I should be fine, luckily- if I don’t complete the course by the start of school then I can just complete it during the school year, which should only be a week or so.
If it’s not 20% of the course then why does the page say 80 subjects remaining, and that the course is 80% completed? ALEKS courses are incredibly quick to do, they’re very small.
I have no idea why it says what is says. But I’ve taught the course so many times in the past 30 years… and 80 topics is a LOT of material if you’re going to learn them well.
