Is it that big of a deal that i took geometry freshman year instead of algebra 2? I moved the summer between seventh and eighth grade so i wasnt able to get ahead.

In most school settings Geometry goes first, unless all of NYC is doing it wrong.

No, you’re still a year ahead of the average student and will be able to take AP Calc by graduation.

I mean you won’t really be “ahead” anymore but it’s not a huge deal

No, you’re still a year ahead of most.

You might still be able to move ahead if your new school offers summer algebra 2.

It’s fine. I did too by senior year it doesn’t matter I just have to stuff an extra AP class in my schedule to remain a chance at top ten. And drop band /hates band/

Its impossible to get into summer school if u live in southern california. The schools get no funding from the state because it’s broke. They dont offer summer school so u have to apply at a comunity college. I applied to more than 5 colleges and didnt get into a single one because college students get priority.

Not at all! I didn’t take any classes to be ahead - I’ll be a freshman and I’m taking Algebra I. There’s nothing wrong with it - in fact, if you take geometry, you’ll still be ahead!

I took Algebra I as a freshman. Taking Geometry freshman year is still a good thing and pretty awesome if you ask me.

There’s no shame in taking Geometry as a frosh because it means you’re above average. Even if you were to instead take Algebra II, there’'ll will always be that kid who took Precalculus in the 6th grade and spends math class practicing for the IMO.

At my school the basic freshmen math class is Algebra 1, then there is an accelerated Algebra (algebra 1A), then there is geometry which is usually a sophomore class, then there is an accelerated geometry class (Geometry A) which I am taking as a freshmen. On that course I would take Advanced Algebra A and Trigonometry as a sophomore which are the only pre requisites for the calculus classes.

I took Algebra I in 8th grade and an Honors Geometry class in 9th grade. I’ll take an Accelerated Algebra II class this upcoming year. You’ll be fine. I don’t like math that much, but as long as I get to take AP Calculus in high school I’m fine with it.

Many kids here took geometry as freshmen but did not take Algebra I until sophomore year, to then take Algebra II junior year. You’re ahead still, at least where I live

It’s perfectly normal to take geometry during your freshman year. and also I live in southern california… so no one can get summer school. But I still managed to get to Algebra 2 freshman year

I live in southern CA too, but my school offers summer school for money.

I was worried about that too, but in the end it doesn’t matter because all the classes you’ll take in the future evens out. Besides, some people who take Algebra 2 freshman year may not even take a math class in 11th or 12th grade. I’m taking geometry honors as a freshman too and so are many of my classmates, so don’t worry, it’ll all work out in the end. :)

I also took algebra 1 as an 8th grader. And Geometry A is my schools version of an honors class.

Most people took geometry and algebra during their freshman years. I doubt if any college has rejected someone for taking geometry freshman. It doesn’t matter as much as you think.

My school is super competitive.
Most of my friends took alg 2 as freshmen, are taking trig/math analysis (pre-calc) next year, and IB HL math junior and senior year. Based in my track, i wouldnt be able to take HL math because its a two year course, so i have to take SL.

Most kids don’t take Geometry until 10th or 11th grade, so you’re fine.

It happened to me too. In order to get placed in Algebra 1 in 7th grade, you needed a 90 or higher on a placement test and a teacher recommendation. Even though I got a 99 on the test, I had to move during that summer and was unable to get a teacher recommendation. Wasn’t a huge deal.
