Hi! So I got waitlisted for Quinnipiac when I applied to the undergraduate 6 year PA program, however I just got an email saying I was accepted to the college as a Biomedical Sciences major. Can I still become a PA if I go to quinnipiac and didn’t get into the PA program? Can I transfer into the PA program later?
Seems to me like that’s a great question to ask Quinnipiac. Call or email them.
^^^I agree. My guess is that as a Quinnipiac graduate your application to their PA program would be considered like any other application. You could ask them if you do exceptionally well if being a QU student gives you an advantage. I couldn’t answer whether they accept transfers into the program from other undergraduate majors. That is definitely a question for those who run the program.
.
The Entry Level Masters in Physician Assistant Program (ELMPA) is one of two (the other being the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program) which outright do not allow students to transfer (internally or externally) into the program.
An important note for the Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Radiologic Sciences, Diagnostic Imaging programs; transferring is technically possible but dependent on there being space available in the program. We cannot guarantee there will be space available in any year of the programs.
The graduate PA program highly prioritizes direct paid patient contact hours (working as an EMT, CNA, etc), quality of academics, and the results of in candidate interviews in their admissions process. We do have QU alumni who are admitted into the PA graduate entry program but there isn’t an overt advantage in simply being a graduate if the items mentioned above are not competitive compared to the applicant pool. A QU student in health and science studies or biomedical sciences does have the ability of tracking very similarly to the ELMPA curriculum which should prepare them for prerequisite requirements in admission for many PA graduate programs.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Paul,
Do you have profile of admitted ELMPA students? Is physics a hard entry requirement as my DD is taking human anatomy instead next year. Any suggestions for summer experiences?
Tamaraall - your decision? stats? any insights?
Hi @midwest_parent,
Physics is a hard requirement for entry as students will take a year of college level physics and we’d like to see them have exposure to that level of work prior to taking that course. I would suggest trying to double up on both the physics and A&P as most of our applicants tend to have 5 years of a lab based science.
I would suggest any summer experience which can provide observation hours for someone who is a PA, an emergency department of a hospital, local doctors office, local community health center, or even joining a local volunteer fire department as an EMT in training. Our program requires a student complete their EMT certification by the end of their sophomore year here at QU, and some students complete that while they’re in high school.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
