My daughter was disappointed, she was reviewed, but did not get ELC. She was hopeful of this so that she could be guaranteed admission to UCDavis. Whats the chance now.

My D received the same notification yesterday...:( But hey! like the Oscars, isn't it an honor to even be considered! ?! Congrats on your high achieving D!

thanks history mom, congrats on yours too. Good learning experience as I am sure there are more regrets to come in the future. But I say you should always put yourself out there as no one ever won by quiting.

I don't get it either. The weighted cutoff GPA last year was a 4.1 and she had a 4.34 (ELC weighted). Didn't seem right, but the counselor told her not to worry that she had a good shot at most UC's.

My D was "reviewed" last year as well. It doesn't matter how high the GPA is, if there are enough students with a higher one ( 3 in my D's small school. These were NOT the three students with the highest SAT's BTW. Which just goes to show you...) Anyway, last year poster UCD Admissions said being reviewed made you a "strong canidate" for UCD. No worries. What I would worry about is if your D gets invited to one of the "honors program". Be sure to go to the "high achieving student" thingy in the fall, if she gets invited. ( I wondered if the ELC review triggered it). There are two honors programs, and one of them sounded like the ideal way for my D to make it on a large UC campus.

Hmm, ELC has nothing to do with review. Either she is or she isn't, and is totally based on her gpa standing relative to other students in her school.

^^^ I don't understand what you mean. According to the GC at my D's hs the top 10% of the graduating class can be reviewed for ELC by UC. Then UC sends a notification re who is actually designated ELC. The OP's D was reviewed and like my D did not get the designation.

I think top 10 percent are submitted by schools for review; top 4 percent, by UC criteria, are ELC. I believe it IS all about GPA, but UC has it's own way of calculating it. In most situations, it does not seemto be a deal breaker. I think OP's chances are VERY good at UC Davis.

D is ELC and got a letter a couple of days ago from Davis saying she would be admitted to Davis into the major of her choice. She liked Davis so it is great to have that. My other two kids were admitted as well when they applied, 3.8/1280 old SAT and 3.9/1500 on new SAT and we're from SoCal so OP should be well qualified. Davis is a great school, best of luck to everyone.

They take the top 12% of each highschool and review them, recalculate/weight GPA for UC "golden door" classes, than select the top 4% (which was 10 students at my daughters school). So she was reviewed, but did not receive an ELC number. She did receive a number with prefilled in info for her UC application - had all the personal info filled out. But did not get that guarantee for UC Davis.
