Oh God, I couldn't believe it. Today, there were letters going around for those people who were eligible for ELC at my school and I didn't get one. I'm dying to get into UC Davis - I'm seriously DYING to get into that school.

I didn't get into my school's ELC... will that hurt my chances?

My Chances aren't great to begin with.

Planning to apply as ECONOMICS major

~~~~~~~~
Well... be perfectly honest... Do I stand a chance?
Will they consider that I have prepared myself for my intended major (economics) by enrolling into the Academy of Finance, taking an internship at Wells Fargo, taking AP Econ?
UCD is the ONLY college I want to get into.
If I don't get in, I plan on appealing, and if worse comes to worse, here I come UCSC.
I think you have a chance! My friend had a 3.2ish throughout his high school year and he got in. He was into drinking, smoking and all that so he didn't even have any ECs or a great essay. So dont worry!
I wouldn't say UCD is easier than UCSB and I can't really say if UCI or UCD is better.
karupt: To be perfectly honest...I don't think it's such a surprise that you didn't get ELC. However, I'd say you still have a chance at UCD. How much...I'm not sure. UCD over-admitted this year so I'm not sure how that's going to affect their admissions next year. I'm going to say you have an average chance.
Probably not. It's public. They probably don't have time to be that analytical.
Hey! UCSC is quite good for undergraduate from what I hear. Might be better than UCD to go for undergrad. I also hear it has a nice campus. Why don't you visit and try to keep your choices open? :)
Is ELC really THAT important when it comes to getting into a UC? I'm afraid that Davis won't even give me a second look because of my mediocre stats AND I didn't get ELC.
Yeah, I heard stories of people getting into UCD with 3.2s and others not getting in with 3.8s... Anyways, I'm hoping for the best but if I don't get into UCD, I don't know what to do.
You see, one of the main reasons why I DESPERATELY WANT to get into UCD is because I don't want to go too far away from where I live (in SF) and the only other choice other than Davis is UCSC. The problem with UCSC is that I hear it is a "hippie" school and is extremely liberal. Not a great place for a conservative to be in. =/
I really don't think ELC matters besides "guaranteed admission to one UC."
Sorry to tell you this, but all the UCs are liberal. The good news? All the UCs have a good number of conservatives. With such large colleges, I'm sure you'll find your clique if you just look.
San Francisco...have you considered UC Merced? :)
I think you should take a look at some other UCs and maybe even other colleges. You might find one you really like. Visit some colleges in the summer if you have time. Good luck.
Dude, don't even worry. ELC is not the be-all-end-all of UC admission. I didn't have ELC at my school and I got into every UC I applied to (UCSB, UCSD, UCLA, and Berkeley). If you can, try to raise your SAT a little bit. If you can get it above 2000 I think you'll be pretty set for Davis. Even if that doesn't happen, I think you have a decent to above-average shot at the school.
I think you need to improve your sat scores a bit since you cannot do much about your gpa. Also if you study well for some sat2's that will help.
