!! didnt get into kelley direct admit!

damn! still havent got the letter yet .. how?

I still haven't received my letter either. But I meet all their requirements, so I'm expecting it to come sometime soon.

If anything, I'm sure you can call them.

Kahlen,

The school breaks for winter break from December 16th until January 8th. Now that they are back in session they will start getting the rest of these letters sent--so you'll probably get yours soon.

sigh .. think not much chance. Calcruzer, dont get into kelley direct is also ok right? can fight for it during freshman?

you shouldn't worry about it so much kahlen. The only real difference between being a direct admit and not being a direct admit is that a direct admit does not have to file an application to enter the program. thats it!

direct admits and university division students wanting to enter the Kelley school all take the EXACT same classes during the first year.

The only real benefit I see of being direct admit is that you don't have to worry about applying and you can take some honors business classes. If you enter the Mitte Honors Program in the Bschool when you become a sophomore (assuming you got into the Bschool which is quite easy) then you can take honors classes too so its not a big deal.

Direct Admit in reality is more of a marketing gimmick to entice students. Don't worry too much.

It also means a free t-shirt.
but then you get the $400 or so per semester "business program fee" added to your bill, so you're actually saving a bunch of money. now that i think about it, i probably would have been better off not putting business as my major on the application just to save that $800.

if you get into the honors college, then you could take honors classes anyways. i never thought about it this way, but i guess you would actually be better off declining direct admit status.

lol yea in some ways it would be better not being a direct admit since you save money :)

yea if your in the general honors college then you can still take honors classes in the bschool. thanks for the info. zippo.

I read the last few messages and decided to call KSB during study hall.
Yeah, they told me that you don't take Kelley classes until soph year but KSB direct admits get an advisor and don't have to apply for ademssion (thus the direct part). They also told me you have to have a 3.0 freshman year to continue and that this was hard and alot of Direct Admit freshman drop out of the program. Now I don't feel so special.

If you click on the link and then the highlighted words, you will see lots of information about Kelley.

http://www.kelley.iu.edu/ugrad/admission/request.cfm

so the bottom line is ... it's the same? after the 2nd semester in university division, you can apply for kelley (GPA 3.0)?

ddomino88, why maintaining a GPA of 3.0 is hard? I thought the classes kelley direct admit students take is the same as those in the university division? so that does also mean for us, it's also difficult to get a GPA 3.0?

We all want to keep our high school GPA in college but people ahead of me in HS say it can be really hard especially at Public Colleges because of the luck of the draw in geting profs with impossible curves. I had one friend say "I pray for C's" and he was top 10% in HS.

What I'm saying is that when I make a decision where to go to college, it will be based on whether I like the school, not whether I like the specialty program.

This direct admit to KSB seems to be a way to get freshman with higher GPA/SAT to attend IU. Looks like they admit alot of people out of High School.
How many actually make it through? I'm going to ask at Kelley Direct Admit Day. Look for me, I'll be the one escorted out of the room by security.

so is it easy to get into kelley after freshman?

if you can keep a 3.0

Getting a 3.0 sounds hard based upon the postings here, but it's not that impossible.

If you go to the following link:

http://www.indiana.edu/~registra/gradedist.shtml

you can see the grades of previous courses. (look at the schedule of classes and get the professors names, then input them and a semester and see what courses they offered and what the grades were).

Based upon my estimates, the average grade GPA is 2.45 or so. Obviously, this means that about 2/3rds of students won't get a 3.0 GPA, but it also says that 1/3 of students will get this. I guess it depends on how demanding your high school courses were--and how well you did overall--and how willing you are to put in your best effort--that will determine if you have what it takes to get the 3.0 GPA at Indiana--Bloomington.

Many students come to Bloomington just to party. If you are not one of these, you should do fine.

I finally got my letter a couple of days ago. Hope everyone else gets one as well.

the difficulty of classes at IU is based largely on your academic background. All that average GPA stuff is more representative of the general Indiana State student population and I often heard from kids as well as some instructors that the Indiana Education System is not as rigorous as other areas. Really it all depends on what kind of student you were in high school and how hard or demanding your school was. Personally, IU is moderate difficulty for me. So far, I have had 1 or 2 class per semester where it requires my full undivided attention (A100, A201, Hist B301, X205 so far heh) in order for me to get the A but the rest of my classes just required time and it was fairly easy.

like Calcruzer said, its up to you. What grade do you want? What are your goals and are you willing to accomplish them? Just keep your priorities straight, at the end of the day, I often remind myself why I chose to come all the way here to IU and that encourages me to work hard and stay focused.

i actually got a call from a girl from kelley a couple days ago... she congratulated me on getting into Kelley as direct admit and then asked if i had questions...

the thing is i still havent gotten the direct admit letter and it's been 4 months since ive been accepted to IU... lol

yea the call means you got Direct Admit, I got that call too when I applied. The mail is probably lost somewhere, who knows, it doesn't matter it's just a piece of paper.

wow! 4 months then they tell you~
