Didn't take exams for AP classes!

Hi Everyone,

I took a number of AP classes this year, including Computer Science and US History. However, I did not take the exams for these last two classes. I have (what I think are) good reasons for not taking them, but got A’s in the classes. Will I have to explain why I didn’t take them to colleges? Are they just going to assume I got a 1 or that I just want to boost my GPA? Cause neither is the case.

Thanks!

No, you don’t have to explain why you didn’t take the exams. Generally AP exams are barely used for admissions - they’re mainly used to assign transfer credit
As for what they’ll assume. No one here can really know. If it were me I would probably assume your did poorly on the exam, but once again that information will have little to no impact on your admission decision.

No. Colleges may or may not make their own assumptions and top colleges may call GC’s for an explanation. However, it’s not worth the space on the application trying to explain.

Lots of people don’t take the exams. I’m not sure how much they help you as far as credits. I’m starting to hear it’s a bit scam- ish.

You will be fine.

Rollout - No, not “scamish”! My son graduated with a masters of engineering in 4 years. Thanks to AP credit, he entered school as a “Freshman with Sophomore Standing”. Regarding the OP - You do NOT have to take the test - my son the engineer got A in AP Spanish, but did not take the test.
