Okay, so I'm a freshman right now, and I took all the honors courses available......except history. My schedule and grades were as follows:

Art I A+
English IH A
Latin IIA A+
Algebra IIH A+
World History A A
Band A+
Bio H A+

My unweighted GPA is 4.24 (out of 4.33), weighted 4.52 (out of 5.33; my non-honors electives brought the weighted down, and plus there is no Latin II Honors in my school, only Latin IIIH). "A" stands for "accelerated," by the way.

I plan on taking ALL honors (5) next year, and all APs possible my junior and senior years (APUSH, both AP English's, AP Calc, AP Stat, AP Physics, AP Bio, etc.). I'm shooting for Ivy League, especially Cornell.

So, my question is: will the fact that I did not take World History Honors my freshman year pretty much kill me in Ivy League admissions? I really hope not; this was by far the worst decision I made this year. I most definitely could have handled it.

No, it doesn’t really matter. Your freshman year grades will count, but it would only be worth so little when it comes to the application process. It’s mostly your Junior year grades that will count. But your Sophomore year grades will definitely count also. You had really good grades your Freshman year, so don’t worry about it. Ivy Leagues don’t only take students who gets straight As and a million AP/honor classes. Extra curricular activities count also. So in conclusion, no, the fact that you didn’t take World History Honors your freshman year will not kill you in Ivy League admissions.

Not taking that class will not matter whatsoever. You’re freshman grades look really awesome, so keep up the good work, get ready for those standardized tests, and find some cool things to do with your time. If you do all of that, you’ll be golden.

o.O
I’m pretty sure the 5 A+'s will make up for it. how’ld you manage that?!?

The difference is so tiny that there is practically no chance it will affect your decision. Good luck in the future and - one piece of advice - get off this website. You’re too young to care about the admissions process; just go out and do stuff.

No impact on your admission chances at all. Some schools (like Stanford) don’t even count your freshman GPA. And remember that the Ivies and their equivilent reject lots of 4.0s every year, so if you are going to differentiate yourself, put some of that energy into something extracurricular that you love.

Thanks to everyone that replied

No, it won’t hurt. Freshman year is the least important of your 4 high school years in college admissions. Plus, if you’re taking everything else honors/AP you can from now on, you’ll be fine. It won’t hurt your chances.
