Difference between 32/33 and 34?

I need a good SAT/ACT score to help make up a bit for my poor grades up till junior year. I had a 3.0-3.2 sort of GPA until I started taking things more seriously Junior year when I got a 4.2 GPA. I really want to back that up with a 2200+ SAT or 34+ ACT.

Do colleges consider a 34 as much more highly than a 32/33? Thing is, I keep scoring between the 32-34 score range on my practice tests, and I feel the pressure of the actual will make me score like a 32 or 33, especially knowing my luck.

So, do colleges consider a 34 much more highly than a 33 or so? Especially since 33 -> ~2190 SAT and 34 -> ~2260 SAT?

I'm going to be a senior, and I signed up for both September and October. I really want to get 34+ on September so I can cancel my October scores, but I think I'll have to retake if I score 32 or 33 in September. Just wanted some advice and wondered if it really makes a difference.

Definitely depends on which colleges you are looking at. But in your case, it would be appropriate to strive for the best score possible to make up for your GPA.

I’m looking at mostly UC’s and a few Out of State. I really want to go to UC San Diego.

I know that most colleges consider 34/35/36 to be pretty similar. I think the threshold is between a 33 and 34.

I’m also looking for a 34+ on September, but I don’t think I can get it. Anyway, good luck on your attempt.

LOL same. I don’t have enough confidence in myself to pull off a 34. I feel like I’ll get a 32 or 33 :/

The UC’s will predominantly look at weighted GPA, but I bet you could get into USCD with a decent ACT. I got a 32 in June and am hoping for a 33+ in september.
