It depends on your target schools. You will often find the 75% of admission stat of top schools to be around 33 or higher. Many people say 33 in ACT (or 2250 in SAT) to be the threshold for top schools and it matter less after you passed this point. If you are aiming for ivy leagues, I guess you need to shoot for the best as always. If you think you can do better, go for it.

I’ve heard the same that a 33 is sort of a milestone and a score that opens more doors and provides better opportunities. You just a point away. Making a 33 should be attainable.

It depends on the schools you are interested in. If a 32 is a top notch score for them then you may not need to retake.

I would retake it if I were you, and since you’re so close, I would aim for at least a 34. Focus on your reading and science, of course. For reading, what I usually do is read about two classic novels before I take the ACT, and it really helps my reading speed and comprehension on the test day. By doing this, it’s likely you can get a 32-34 in reading. For science, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! I took about 10-12 practice science tests and pulled my science score from a 27 to a 33. If you can do this, you’ll easily make a 33 and possibly a 34!

So in a case like this, does one bother retaking the English and Math, if the schools allow super scoring? Save energy for the sections one really needs to boost up, and only study for these?

You may focus on certain sections in study, but you still want to keep the scores in the other sections within the range. You definitely should not skip a section in the test even you are expecting superscore at the end.

like on this last test I was really mad at my reading score because i got perfect score in the social studies/science passage ( 18/18) subscore, and in the arts/literature i got a 12/18 !!! I think i did so bad because i remember rushing the first story since I was running out of time. Hopefully I can find a way to improve that.

I feel like I have the potential to increase my score to a 33/34 but I’m feeling too lazy, I’ve been studying for standardized tests for 2 years and am exhausted, so I was hoping this would be my last ACT. Anyone know how to get over this laziness? If getting a 33 won’t change my admission chances that much then I really dont want to retake, unless it will significantly change my chances

The first time I took it I got a pretty similar score: E 35, M 31, R 35, S 29, C 33. But then I took it this April and got a 36 with a 35 on my science section…so definitely retake after practicing the science a lot.
