what calculus class do you get to skip in your freshmen year of college if you get a 5 on the AP Calculus AB test, vs. the AP Calculus BC test?

if you pass calc ab with a 4/5 you are guaranteed to place out of 1 semester of calculus I in college. if you pass calc bc with a 4/5 you are guaranteed to place out of 1 year of calculus. if you get a 3 on either, you may or may not get credit depending on the college.

does this 4/5 grade apply to all colleges? and just for clarity, 4/5 on calculus BC will place you out of calculus 1, right? not calculus 2? or both, because it’s 1 year?

4/5 applies to alll colleges nationwide. yes, it will place you out of calc I not calc 2.

^^^^^
Does not know what he’s talking about.

A 4/5 on Calc AB will usually place you out of Calc I. A 4/5 on Calc BC will *usually/I place you out of Calc II. A 3 on either may or may not count for anything.

But there’s no rule that says colleges must do this. So there are a few that either don’t let you place out at all, or highly recommend that you take the course anyway. It’s not something you need to worry about when you’re taking the test, but don’t apply to colleges just assuming your AP tests will count.
