Should I take AP Calculus BC???

I took AP Calculus AB my Junior year of high school (last year) and I got a B both semesters and on the exam I received a 3. I don’t consider myself to be very good at math but I try to get by.

My AP Calc AB teacher will be my AP Calc BC teacher this coming year. He’s a good teacher and apparently, if you have him as your AP Calc teacher and you do decent in his class, you’ll pass the AP exam.

I’m just afraid that I won’t be able to maintain a +4.0 GPA if I take that class. And a majority of the students in BC got a 5 on the AB exam while I only got a 3.

Thank you in advance!

If you’ve taken AP Calculus AB, DEFINITELY take AP Calculus BC. Do not settle for anything less, colleges will love that you will take BC. Others can only take AB their senior years. Keep in mind some kids take BC after PreCalc. You have leverage! A “B” is okay in Calc AB, you probably have weight anyways:)! If you get an A in Calc BC, that’ll make up for it. AP test wise, you can make up for your AB score by the Calc BC AB sub score on the BC test! It’ll replace your AB score:D! Yeah, definitely take it.

There are two parts in Calculus. you can skip AP Calc AB since AP Calc BC has all of those topics and more. However you cannot skip AP Calc BC if you have already taken AP Calc AB. Otherwise your knowledge in Calc will be incomplete since you haven’t learnt the extra topics.

Thank you so much! This really helped me consider taking BC.

In many schools BC is Calc 1 and 2 while AB is Calc 1 only, while in some BC is Calc 2. Definitely take BC, because either way you will either take or review Calc 1 topics.
