Difference between Chemistry major, biochemistry , and chemistry w BC option

I'm an accepted early action candidate to Villanova's Chemistry major. I was wondering what the difference is between the chemistry major, the biochem major, and the chem major w the biochem option? Also I was wondering if I wanted to switch into biochem as my major is it too late to do that? Anyone from the science department or anyone who's familiar with the question. Thanks!

Also of note I'm planning to be premed and was wondering if the med school path doesn't pan out what jobs are available for these majors with a M.S. or a PhD

I don’t know all the specifics, but I know some of it. Basically Biochem majors add in bio type classes into the normal chem classes instead of just focusing on the chem classes. You can read some more about each of the options you are looking at Villanova:
[Undergraduate Programs | Villanova University](http://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/artsci/chemistry/undergrad.html)

Just to let you know, I would say that most of the premed students come from Biology majors so the Biochem path may put you with more of those people. As for jobs available if med school doesn’t happen, there are some listed on the link above. Working as a chemist in the chemical or pharmaceutical industries, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, forensic science, etc.

Finally, switching majors within the same college is relatively easy. If you are simply an early action candidate, you don’t have to worry because I would guess the first year curriculum may be very similar so you could take your time to decide. If you know you want to switch, email your advisor (when you get one) before you arrive for the schoolyear or try to meet with them during orientation just in case they want to switch your schedule around for first semester.

Thanks Joe I went to the FAQs and it said it had a whole thing I wasn’t sure whether it was an easy or difficult process. Yeah I’m thinking about switching to biochem because I overall like the courses better. I’m going to the EA Canidate weekend so I’m sure someone up there will know the whole details.

Yeah, I’m sure someone will know the details. If you get a chance to talk to him then, Dr. Bausch is the Chemistry Department Head so he definitely would know the process.

Ok thanks for the help Joe if anyone else has more info to add feel free because I’m still trying to discern which major I should choose
