Difference in admission procedures for MEng(Non Thesis) and MS(Thesis)

Alright,to start off with I'm an international student pursuing 2nd year mechanical engineering.I'm planning to apply for graduate school during the fall 2015.My concern here is regarding admissions to top grade universities(Say top 25 in US).Until now I was under a misconception that MS/MEng were the same. That said,MIT website says thesis work is needed for completion of MechE program. Now,I'm absolutely sure that I do not want to end up getting a Phd. I'm looking forward to working in an industry(preferably a Mechatronic oriented job). So what now is needed to gain entry into any university for that matter for an MEng/MS(NON Thesis) program? Would I still need ample research experience and participate in international conferences? I do think internships matter though.
I heard that MEng programs are not funded and there is absolutely no chance of a financial aid,is that true ? What can be done ?

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thank you.
