Differences between A minuses and As?

My parents have been nagging me these past couple of weeks that I have too many A minuses on my transcript for top colleges. I’m genuinely curious if colleges differentiate between A minuses, As, and A pluses because my school’s GPA doesn’t. Thanks!

For UMich, they are all 4.0.

Depends on the college. Some schools recalculate GPAs based on their own parameters (ex. academic subjects only, unweighted) and do recognize a.difference between an A and an A-.

Your grades are considered within the context of your school. At my son’s high school only one student (in a class of 220) did not have any B’s by the second semester of sophomore year. The Salutatorian had 3 B+'s and more A-'s than A’s. Students with many A-'s and even a smattering of B+'s are accepted to the most selective schools including Harvard and Yale. That being said, these students with non-perfect grades are at the very top of the class and have very high SAT, Subject Exam and AP scores that validate the academic prepardness. Your raw grades are less important than how you stack up in your class.
