different colleges at ucsc

does anyone have any information on the different colleges at ucsc? like the people, atmosphere, dorms? I like to surf a lot and party and am trying to pick the college there that would best suit me thanx

kresge is fricken crazy. Porter is party (more beer, less drugs) Cowell is the most straigh-laced, least hippy and prettiest. I would recommend cowell, but it depends on what you want.

porter sounds interesting is it true that its full of all the hippes and super liberals

no, thats kresge. You will find super liberals and hippies at any college at UCSC though, so if you're an outspoken republican, you probably wont be too happy there, unless you enjoy confrontation. If you can be quiet about your republicanness tho, itll be fine.
Porter is set up like a "japanese villa".. traditional buildings (with a japanese architectural feel) set up around a quad/plaza. Kresge is set up to defy all expectations of what a building/area should look like. Archways between building are crooked. It has what are called "the acid steps" which are built all crooked and unique (theyre pretty cool, actually). So you will find more drug use there, and along with that, probably more hippies.

I think you would be happy at porter.

does anyone have info on Merrill college at UCSC?

Does anyone have info on Merrill College located in University of California, Santa Cruz.

I surf a lot, too. I ranked my colleges based on which theme I liked most, which happened to be college 8’s, even though I liked the looks of Crown the best. College 8 was also closer to OPERS (the gym) which is convenient for me because I am always there. Choose the college based on the curriculum, or else you may be stuck writing papers on subjects that are a drag to you. I am not hippy, either, and lean towards republican more than liberal (although I have had tons of liberal friends, they just REALLY got on my nerves). I hope this fall that the hippies don’t get annoying, because people who force their belief’s onto others are very irritating! Good luck
