Difficulty of Admission

Of the eight Ivy-League schools, along with MIT & CalTech, how difficult (on average) is it to get into each (1 being easiest on list, 10 being most difficult on list)?

Come on...

Depends on what kind of student you are...

Yale- 10
Harvard - 10
Princeton - 8
Upenn - 6
Columbia - 6
Darthmouth - 5
Brown - 5
Cornell - 6
MIT- 10
Caltech - 7
thats what i think i am no expert.

I agree, except Columbia, Brown, and Penn are harder than that.

Cal Tech is a beast to get into. I don't think I would label it a seven. I'd say a nine at the lowest.

Good Luck

J

Yale-10
Harvard-10
Princeton-10
UPenn-3
Columbia-7
Dartmouth-6
Brown-6
Cornell-2
MIT-10
Cal-Tech-9

all are 10, what kind of a question is that.

except corneel of course which is a whole nother story

The True list

Yale- 10
Harvard - 10
Princeton - 10
Upenn - 7
Columbia - 8
Darthmouth - 7
Brown - 7
Cornell - 5
MIT- 9
Caltech - 8

I think he was asking us to rank them in order. But I have no idea so I'm not even going to try.

Yeah, that's what I meant. From #1-#10, how hard are they in relation to eachother.

why is everyone saying that cornell is not so hard to get into??

just my opinion although i am just a student who doesn't know much. area matters btw like for princeton its so hard for ppl from nj.:
Yale
Harvard
Princeton
MIT
Caltech
Upenn
Columbia
Darthmouth
Brown
Cornell
I am not saying cornell is not hard to get in to, but from what i've heard, even from such reputable sources as the Fiske Guide 2004, it is the easiest ivy to get into BUT the hardest to do well at.

It seems like Ivy-Leagues aren't even looking for potential anymore, they just want to see a lot of clubs and sports. I heard that they enjoy rejecting people with 4000 SAT IIIs. What a joke.

cornell has by far the least grade inflation

ivies seem to be more interested in non-academic stuff, which i majorly dislike. anyways here's my list

from least hard to most

Cornell-excellent, but easiest, alas not easy to stay in though!
Upenn-if not for wharton, it would be close to cornell
Dartmouth-this is where it gets tough, i just think it's slightly easier than the next
Brown-if you're the right type of person, it's likely, however they look for certain characteristics
Columbia-same as brown, just harder
Princeton-not as hard as the tech schools, but obviously not even close to easy
Caltech-if you're not in some math/science major competitions, this becomes next to impossible
Harvard-being the most known, it has a harsh acceptance rate
MIT-just missing 1st place, only certain people make it in here
Yale- no one can say they have a good chance here, it's just so much of a reach

Hahahaaa...Will Einstein get in Ivies if he's in high school right now?(I mean if he's only 17 right now.. not as a corpse )

depends on what he's done with his life thus far

Harvard isn't as hard to get into as MIT and Caltech. Tons of people apply to Harvard, many of whom are not really that incredibely smart (1200 kids). Whereas the majority of MIT's applicants are 1550s or more. Harvard accepts the least amount percentage wise, but they also have the dumbest pool to pick from on average. I would put Harvard at 5th or 6th hardest.

No. Einstein would not get in. He didn't do any of his work in school, he studied by himself, and had nothing to show for it until he was an adult.

According to Princeton Review (no shared ranks, although most are of similar difficulty)
MIT 10
Princeton 9
Caltech 8
Yale 7
Harvard 6
U Penn 5
Columbia 4
Brown 3
Dartmouth 2
Cornell 1
