Difficulty of receiving Merit Scholarships at Pitt?

I have a 35 (E/M) ACT score with an 11 on writing. I am in my the top 3% of my class, and I have a 4.8 w and 3.9 uw gpa. Is there much chance of receiving a merit scholarship with these credentials?

If it matters I have completed/am in progress in 11 AP Courses

Yes, I think you will receive some merit aid, not sure if it will be a full tuition or less. If you will search the old posts here you will see people with your credentials have received Merit schloarships

Yes, you have a good chance with these stats.

You might also want to apply to some schools with guaranteed merit for your stats.

My daughter rcvd full tuition w similar GPA and ACTs last yr.

Does anyone know the criteria they use for giving merit aid? Is it solely GPA and test scores, or do they also factor academic rigor or even URM?

The most important criteria I think is GPA with a rigorous curriculum, high test scores, class rank.

I’ve seen some minority students get full rides, but they also possessed high grades and scores.

@scidude34, Financial Aid is based off your FAFSA. For scholarship eligibility we look at a few things: https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/

Thank you @hailtopitt1787 ! Also, how does Pitt round test scores? Is say a 34.5 rounded up to a 35, down to 34, or considered a 34.5?

@scidude34, I am not sure, actually. I can ask our processors tomorrow when I am in the office!

The ACT math and english aren’t averaged so you’d end up with a 34.5 or something - each score is converted
to an SAT equivelent - at least that’s how my daughter’s scores appeared on her orientation paperwork.

@scidude34, We do not round test scores.

Hope that helps!

Do SAT 2 results make any difference for merit consideration or placement? Should a student submit high scores at all?

@jupiter98,

SAT Subject Tests don’t really factor into our admissions or scholarship decisions. What we are really looking for is listed here on our site: https://oafa.pitt.edu/learn-about-aid/academic-scholarships/

"Criteria for scholarship consideration include SAT/ACT results, overall grade point average, class rank (if applicable) and strength of curriculum. Activities outside of the classroom such as leadership positions, athletics, community service, etc. are reviewed but given secondary consideration.

In recent years, scholarship eligible students possessed ALL of the following:
-minimum SAT score of 1450 (math and critical reading scores only) or 33 ACT (Math and English subscores average)
-overall ‘A’ average
-top 5% class rank (if applicable) while participating in challenging high school curriculums consisting of AP/IB/Honors courses
-record of excellence in various academic and nonacademic activities outside of the classroom"

Hope that helps!
