University of Pittsburgh Merit Scholarships-33 ACT

I applied to Pitt in mid-October and got accepted about 2 weeks later. I’ve been reading over discussions concerning Pitt’s merit scholarships and noticed most had an ACT score of 34+, and were notified relatively soon after acceptance. I was wondering about my chances of receiving any merit scholarship.
ACT: 33
GPA: 4.3
Rank: school doesn’t rank, but counselors have mentioned that I’m most likely in the top 5 of 400 students, most definitely in the top 5%
I am in-state, I don’t know if that is a factor because I noticed many recipients were OOS.
Thanks!

I also got into the honors college

You have great scores.

We have gone through the Pitt merit aid threads dating back 2-3 years. It seems to be getting much tighter.

So far this year I don’t think any 33 ACT’ers have reported in yet (at least that I have seen). Based on last year’s threads, I think it is possible you may get a small amount…maybe $5,000 per year?

So hard to say though!! Hang tight on the wait. My daughter applied in July, accepted late October and not notified of merit aid until Thanksgiving week or so.

@sokaitlyn I asked your exact question because my daughter (OOS) has almost the same stats as you with a 33 ACT with rigorous couseload with all honors and a lot of AP courses. She has not received any notice of merit aid from Pitt yet and the only applicants who reported having received merit aid to date on the Pittsburgh merit scholarship thread had ACT composite scores of 34 or higher. I believe the Pitt merit scholarship committee started giving out merit aid to those with 36 ACT then 35 then 34. The Pitt admissions counselor on College Confidential Pitt threads has said that merit awards will continue to be awarded through the beginning of March. There is still a chance that applicants with ACTs of 33 will receive merit aid. The Pitt website states that merit aid will be considered for eligible candidates who have a minimum ACT of 33 or higher. So don’t lose hope!

@trackmbe3 yes–it does seem as if they are working their way down from 36 to 35 to 34 and hopefully soon some 33s!

Based on the pattern and amount of what is being released though, I would be shocked if an OOS student got more than $10,000/year and an in-state more than $5,000/year with an ACT 33.

@sokaitlyn My son applied to Pitt in November. He received his acceptance the last week in November. About a week later, he received the letter regarding his $10K/ yr scholarship.

He has a 33 ACT.
We are OOO.
Accepted to Dietrich.
Accepted to honors college.
Unofficial GPA 3.9 UW (school does not calculate GPA and does not rank)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can tell you that I haven’t thought to include.

ETA: Notification came by mail (not email) and follow up “congratulations on your scholarship” cards have followed.

Thanks! I’m almost exactly your son except in-state. Did he apply with an intended major?

Yes he did. Did you self report your ACT score? I know UPitt allows self-reporting of grades but don’t recall if they allowed self-reporting of scores. We did have an official ACT score sent.

Did you apply to Stamps and Nordenberg Leadership scholarships? Those are for instate students only.
