And it still continues, and it is sooooooo frustrating, and makes for a totally unsatisfactory UX.

When I read posts, they still come up as not being read. I guess I should just ignore the whole notification thing since it doesn’t seem to be working anyway.

Yep, the issue is continuing for me too.
And now I’m getting the 502 error message again.
I’m also getting 502 errors. It’s a problem on one of servers that we clearly haven’t properly diagnosed. We’ve restarted the servers. Hopefully that’ll help for now.
As long as we are getting server errors, notifications and the unread view is going to be unreliable.
