Difficulty understanding CR passages

What do you do when you just can't understand a particular CR passage? For practice tests, if I understand the reading, I usually miss 0-1 questions but on certain passages, I completely DO NOT understand if it's some technological thing like black holes/gravity in physics or something else crazy like that. If that happens, I can sometimes have like 5-6 wrong answers because the passage went way over my head.

I'm a pretty avid reader (if I have the time=winter break, etc) so I guess it's not really a matter of CR strategies and all but really comprehending what the reading is trying to say that makes the difference between a 710 and 780 for me. What do you guys do when this happens? Any ways to improve the chances?

You are the total opposite of me in terms of what I miss, when it is something technological I do fine but when it is something with deeper meaning than facts, I miss quite a few. I too would like to know as to how I can do well in both.

I donno. Honestly, I love both philosophical and technological passagies. I would suggest just find the ones that you are weak in, and do a hundred of them. I bet you'll start to have an idea of it. Go brute force!

Well, I think reading a hundred SAT passages would just be a waste of time. In the time it takes you to read that many pointless 2 page SAT passages, you could have read a nice, succulent 500pg. book on Philosophy, thereby improving not only your comprehension, but your focus.

bump bump bump

I used to have the same problem, but I realized that if I pretended like I enjoyed the topic the passage was on I would focus more and understand the passage, actually boosted my CR score like 60 points with no studying.

Godfatherbob and Academy provided some very good suggestions, and I totally agree. But again, reading a hundred SAT passages aren't always a waste of time.. ;) Improved my score from mid-600s to 800.. So take it for what it's worth.

just read some physics passages.. my problem is narrative passages

Read hard materials, it should help you improve. Because its not all about what you like, it about what you don't like.
