Ok, so I usually have trouble on the CR passages because I don't like reading it. I'm a science person so passages on science topics are simple for me. Politics, literature, humantiies, etc. are confusing, but sometimes they're not if they're structured clearly.

So does anyone have any advice on how to force myself into liking the passage?

When you read the passage, don’t focus on the facts(better yet, skip over the facts! The questions don’t test the fact based knowledge…if they do you can always go back and read a snippet). Just focus on the main ideas…and try reading the passage in under 2 mins or less. Go the line questions as soon as you can and spend a lot of time on the questions. You should always go word definition questions>line questions>main idea questions. If its not in the passage, the answer’s not right. and last but not least, in line questions… some people say read around. BUt the truth is, reading around is good but the answer is ALWAYS about what the author is saying or feeling or doing in that little snippet in the lines…ALWAYS. I have been kicked in the butt so much times for using information around the lines to answer questions on like emotion and guess what it was wrong because in that little snippet, the author was feeling something totally different.

Each line and word was picked for a reason… both in the passages AND especially in the answer lines.

You’re fortunate not to like any passages except science. Some people(like me) know almost everything about a passage before we even read it…so we tend to overinterpret and get things wrong. For example, there was a passage on black holes in my last practice test and I was like huh… so I didn’t pay too much attention. I ended up getting a perfect on that section.

Then, there was a passage on Thoreau(guess what? I actually read all of his essays) so I over interpreted and got like 7 wrong on that section.

edit:
You might want to try this little strategy that was on Mystery Tutor. Its worked on me in a couple passages. Try reading down and read closely in the center of the paragraphs. Your brain doesn’t need to read every word… if you just read the center parts, you should have a good idea of what the passage is. I know its weird but try it on a CR section.
