So the decision for which Honors College to sign up for is due by this Sunday and I am still a little unsure of which one I should do. Gemstone seems to be the more prestigious option, but I hear that it has a low retention rate. I am also planning on taking advantage of internship opportunities at UMD, so that might make it hard to do Gemstone (since Gemstone takes up a lot of time).

I am currently majoring in Comp Sci (and plan on double majoring in Math) and I am a bit of a video game nerd, so Digital Cultures & Creativity looked like it would be more fun. However, no one appears to know anything about DCC because its new and DCC is less prestigious than Gemstone.

Basically these are my questions:
1. What is Gemstone's retention rate?
2. Why is it low (if it is, but I am pretty sure it is)?
3. Any advice for my decision between the two Honors Colleges?

DCC is new so no one knows about it. Gemstone is a lot of work (ive heard its like having a minor) so that could be the reason for the retention rate.

Don’t forget “Honors Humanities” and “Entrepreneurship and Innovation”. The former is my s’s program. You’d read great books on religion, feminism, philosophy and such. The latter program is a jump start into the business world where technology and innovation get transformed into a business model, lots of good networking for jobs, internships, etc.

My s thinks his studies in HH have been the very best part of his UMCP education.

DCC could be very cool if you like to be creative on line. The possibilities are limitless with international social networking being something I’d be very interested in exploring.

Good luck selecting and remember nothing is set in stone. There are many chances to change your direction if the spirit moves you.
