Dilemma...should I actually take the ACT this Saturday?

Okay, so I registered for the April 10 ACT a few weeks ago. However, I just received my SAT scores from March, and I got a 800 Math, 800 Writing, and 740 Critical Reading for a 2340 composite, which I was very pleased with. However, I was just informed that our statewide Math League competition held at Albany is also on April 10, which I really don't want to miss because I am representing my HS along with a friend. If I do go to that, I have to miss my ACT (which can't be refunded) and also a Sweet 17 later that evening. Should I take the ACT or go to the event? Thanks.

Well those SAT scores are very good, so i dont think the ACT is nescessary plus that math competition wold look great on your transcript so I wouldn’t take bother with it, but you would have to be ok with not getting a refund.

I know I’m not really in-tune with the SAT board on CC. I mean, if you feel you could do better you should take the ACT. But here’s where some personal preference is going to have to come into play for you.
2340 is, without you being told, a great score in terms of admissions to even the most highly selective colleges.
If it were me (personally) I would skip the ACT and attend your extracurricular event and the party. Now, with that being said, if you were to get the perfect 36 on the ACT I’m not sure how much the 60-point discrepancy would affect you in terms of admission (36 = 2400 on the concordance chart) buuut I’m guessing it wouldn’t be significant enough to say “yes, you’re in” or “no, you’re out” on the final decision to whatever dream college you’re going to apply for.
Great score - you should be proud of yourself.

No, I think that you should go to the competition.

Thank you guys for being very supportive!! I see that all three of you basically agreed with what I was leaning towards in the first place. I think that I’ll just pay to move my test to the June date.

I wish you all good luck on April 10!!
