dilemma...thinking of changing college

Hi!, I'm a graduating class of 2012 from a certain high school in Florida. I was accepted to FSU in their spring term. So right now I have until January before I start my college. As the title suggested, I'm in a dilemma. I'm becoming more and more uncertain about my college choice, which is FSU. I'm not saying that it's a bad school or anything but I've never visited the school in person so I don't really know if it's the right school for me. Plus, the initial reason that I choose (well, made to) go to FSU is because it's the only university in Florida besides UF that offers interior design course. Now that I changed my mind about my major to business, there isn't really anything that attracts me to that school anymore.

So I've been looking around other universities that have good review, and I came across Boston University. And after much reading on reviews and details of this school, I really came to like this school, and very much love to attend if possible.

they have small class ratio and class size, which would make it easier for me ask for help from my professors and I could learn better with less people. FSU mostly have large class sizes. BU also located in Boston, though I haven't been there yet but the impression of it is better than Tallahassee, which is where FSU is located. And the fact that FSU is branded as a "Party School" and the fact that Tallahassee revolve around universities kind of worries me. I know that it's just their reputation, but I've also heard that you can find parties going on everywhere around campus or even in town. everybody that I talked to says that FSU is a party school, even my teachers, so there is some truth in it. This is something that i could not stop myself from worrying. I'm an introverted type of person so I want to stay away from those parties. Plus I learn from my experience in high school that I could be influence by people people I hang out with. I did good in all of my AP classes and was motivated to try even harder because students in those classes really take their study really seriously.

Soooo....heres the problems
I'm not certain if I would be admitted to their school for Fall. So my only choice is to apply for early decision so I would know if I get accepted by December. That means, if I didn't get accepted, I could still go to FSU, since the semester starts in January. and even if I get accepted I have to wait until August to start college, which means that I would be idling around and waste almost half a year without any real purposes. (This is something that my parents would not be happy about.)

and heres the question:
- should I try and apply for BU?
- if I do, would it be worth the wait to go the college that I like? or go to FSU that my mother preferred and it would not waste anymore time than I already have?
-another problem if I decided to go to FSU is that their a lot of their schools are limited access, which means that only a certain amount of students are allow to enter their upper division. they have a test in every spring to select people for their upper division. Aside from the test, they also have what you called a milestone, where you need to complete certain classes to proceed to the upper division. Since I'm starting in Spring, I'm totally confuse of where I'm standing in the midst of this test and this milestone.
So do any of you guys have any ideas about this situations? the admission person from FSU is needs to be fired, seriously. they're completely useless, and just giving medicore answers with attitude.

Thank you for your time and opinion!
and I apologize for this mega long post. I figure the more information, the better lol.

Sounds like you are a FL resident. Can you afford BU? Boston is a great college town with lots of partying.

Why not visit FSU now and see how you like it? Transfer elsewhere if you are not happy. I f you are considering other schools, there are many, many good ones out there to apply to. Take time and do some research.

Like crazed said, go visit the school now - and meet with the staff to get a better understanding of how the testing/milestones work. And while you are there, talk about the possibility of starting in Sept rather than Jan, ‘so you have time to work and save some money.’ Also have a long talk with your folks about what you can afford and your concerns about FSU. (I too am assuming you are in-state.)

Your options are:

 1. Attend in the spring and transfer if you aren’t happy.
 2. Get your admission deferred to Fall at FSU, work for a few months to save money and apply to other schools in the interim. Then make your choice.
 3. If you you can’t get your admission deferred, you will have to decide if you are willing to take the chance that everyone else takes on applying and hoping to get in somewhere else.

Your parents’ financial situation may clarify the situation by eliminating schools you might otherwise be interested in applying to (like Boston College) - and FSU look like a better option overall.

thank you for your response, crazed.
Yes, I am a Florida resident. And I don’t think, based on my father’s income, that tuition with the help of financial aid, would be that much of a problem. Still, it is something that makes me hesitate to go there.
I’m having my orientation for FSU at the end of next month, but should I go visit FSU before then? I feel like going to the orientation is like a commitment that I am going to that school.

Thank you, M’s Mom, for you response too.
I did not think about the option of deferring my term of entry at all. so thank you for that. After giving some more thoughts, I’m thinking about trying to get my admission deferred to Fall, then start applying to other colleges like BU, Drexel, UAB, some college that get good reviews but not too hard to get in and some “safe” college that I know I would be admitted. Would that be a good idea in your opinion?

If you can afford to go to BU then take the time and $ to go visit FSU
