dilemma...

So I am currently in a dilemma...
I am trying to convey my interest in science and my reason for pursuing engineering through my main common app essay by writing a story about my thoughts of a robot. But I am getting two different kinds of feedback on my essay because I admit my essay is ambiguous. Half of the the people I have shown it to liked it. Half of the people I showed it too thought it lacked direction focus and concrete details and couldn't hold the reader's interest especially if they had just written thousand other essays.

Is it okay to have an essay that isn't so direction focused and more ambiguous? I am aiming to send these to high level, like ivy colleges.
Thanks so much!

You will always encounter some who like it and others who dislike it.

Perhaps it does lack direction and focus? If it doesn’t hold some people’s interests now, what if it doesn’t hold a admissions officer’s interest?
