Dilemmas, dilemmas, dilemmas.

Hello, fellow (hey, that rhymed! haha!) CCers!

Soon going into sophomore year, I now face difficulties regarding my schedule. I know that colleges like to see commitment, and I really enjoy playing my instrument in orchestra. On the other hand, there are a lot of classes I want to take during my four years of high school and by taking orchestra for all years clouds my opportunities for taking these classes. So basically, the question would be: could I express my dedication for my instrument without taking Orchestra as a class in school?

Here are my two options:
a) Take orchestra all four years, with an orchestra outside of school.
b) Take orchestra for only my first two years of high school but remain in the outside orchestra for all years, as well as an extracurricular orchestra "club" (to put it simply).

I've thought about this for a week, and still don't know what I should do, so any input would be fantastic!
Thank you!

A class is useful because it helps a student and a teacher interact on a regular basis. Is interaction with a teacher more useful as a way for someone to observe your musical technique and help you improve, or for someone to guide you through a textbook and test how well your progress in understanding some material conforms to the schedule in a syllabus? (I don’t know what you do in your orchestra class so I can’t say.)

In orchestra class we play music in preparation for concerts. I agree that student-teacher interaction is important; this is the reason why I’d be taking the orchestra “club”. Thank you for your reply! I’ll keep those things in mind.
