I got accepted to Middlebury and Colgate.
I really dont know where to go.

I think that if I go to middlebury, my chances to get into a good graduate school is better than when I attend Colgate.

But the dillemma is this, middlebury is my first choice of the two..
but at Middlebury my EFC is 9000, while at Colgate just 5000
also at Middlebury my total loan at the end of four years is 16000 dollar, while
at Colgate will be nothing...

What would you suggest that I should do

Is it possible to send my colgate financial award to middlebury, in the hope that they raise their finaid?

call Middlebury's fin aid office and discuss with them.

@arcardia..

What should I tell them?
that I am gonna attend colgate if the finaid is not going to be better?
Or ask them to lower the EFC without telling them about Cgate?

the loan of 16000 at Middlebury doesn't bother a lot, because I think that I earn that money in short time back
and I am willing to take the loan, in order to study at midd instead of cgate

My Colgate EFC is about $4000 less than Middlebury's also. Should I call Middlebury's financial aid office as well?

Same situation here...my guidance couselor said to send an appeal letter but i dunno i might just call and explain that i really want to go to Middlebury and ask if there's ne way to get more money. I'm waiting for Tufts so I can have that to compare it to as well.

i'm not sure if you should mention Colgate. Midd is more likely to match offers from what it considers to be peer schools (like AWS, Bowdoin, Pomona), and of course, Ivies. It also depends on how much they want you. If you're a top student and really have something special to offer Midd, then they might be more willing to budge on fin aid.

I assume that they can't take away my acceptance, if I am requesting them for more aid?

Right, they won't take it away. I say tell them what Colgare offered you and see if they can give you more aid.

I think the dillema is that dillemma is actually dilemma.

I don't think any of the accepted Middlebury people should go... that way people on the waitlist (like me) CAN.

haha- just kidding.

I'm in a similar situation with different colleges- trying to figure out how much I should allow finances to play a role. My advice is to think of the job you want. I had been wanting to be a teacher, but seeing as that would not pay off a 160,000 loan from a school, I changed to international business (simply because I want to live in China and Japan).

So I guess try to judge your future income (even thought that's very hard), but go by medians, not means.

Good luck!
