Dingledine Scholarships

Anyone heard anything?

Not yet, but hopefully soon. I am curious how long to wait before expecting a letter in the mail, with the holiday. I am going with the January 15 date on the site as the date the letters were sent, but another page said by February 1. so there is a 2 week window. I am getting anxious, maybe more than my daughter!

nothing here yet - as momof2, I think I am more anxious than DS, with senior year schedule/activities/work he seems to be blissfully unaware as to the specific notification dates. I admire his faith that it will all work out :)

Got the letter, D wasn’t selected.

same here - DS not selected, still in line for scholarships from $500 - $2000, but as OOS that unfortunately won’t cut it. JMU was a good match as far as his academics and extracurriculars, but don’t see it happening now.

God Luck to the other Dingledine applicants!

You guys should try the Centennial Scholars Program :]

From the website…
The objective of the Centennial Scholars Program is to diversify the student population of JMU by increasing the number of under-represented students who enroll and graduate from James Madison University in a timely manner. The program will provide the following opportunities to participants throughout their academic experience at JMU.

Doesn’t seem like they’re looking for my white male son :)

According to my D, males are under-represented!

Kidding right? I mean they wouldn’t consider males a URM for this - right?

Actually it’s more of a program for those that would be unable to afford going to college without this type of scholarship.
It pays full direct costs for four years.
One of my best friends is a part of the scholarship program and he is a white male.
And there is a level of diversity in all people, no matter the race or color.
I would say go ahead and have him fill out the scholarship application.
I filled it out recently, and all it was was a basic form and a few questions to answer.
They don’t really look at race in deciding who gets admitted into the program,
the recipients are chosen by the financial aid office and the admissions office.
So if your son is eligible for the Federal Pell Grant, there is a good chance that he could be considered.
It never hurts to try!

Thanks for the info. Not Pell eligible but maybe the info will help someone else on here. Great that there is this kind of program :)

No problem!
I’m glad to be of help, and I wish you and your son luck with the whole college thing~

AL34 - I was kidding - referring to the complaint by the girls that there are too few boys on campus.

DS just got a call about a $2,500K/yr scholarship - mailing details. Unfortunately that barely makes a dent but still, nice to see the offer.

Got the letter today - awarded a Madison Achievement Scholarship. Wil e sad to have to turn this down :(
