Dining Halls

I’m just a bit curious and I know that people do this, but is it possible to sneak food out of dining halls? As in, do they search your bag or anything when you leave and is it easy to be caught? I know it’s quite wrong, but so is paying 60k a year I guess. When I say “sneak” I mean dumping food in Tupperware and stuffing it in your bag. How much can you get away with, since it would be nice to take enough for a light breakfast or something.

You can get in a lot of trouble if you get caught, and it’s sort of a silly thing to get JA’d for. I once stuck a bagel in my backpack for my roommate because she didn’t have time that night to get dinner herself. They don’t search your bags or anything, but there are enough workers watching to catch you if you were to take a bunch of food and put it in containers. One of my friends once tried to take a bagel but some worker saw him and told him to put it back.

Umm, this is pretty dumb. If you don’t like the idea of being full-pay at Cornell, then you should go somewhere else instead of starting a Tupperware theft ring to make up for it.

You are allowed to take out a fruit (banana or apple or orange).

My daughter works in a dining hall at Cornell, and has never seen someone bring tupperware. If they see someone try to steal a bagel, for instance, they tell them to put it back. She says that they would probably catch you with your tupperware because there are a lot of workers around, and that they would tell you to throw the food away. If they see you try it more than once, she thought they’d probably report you to campus police.

So it’s probably not worth it.
