Do people do it?
What are the rules towards it?
What happens when you get caught?
How easy is it to do it?

When I visited USC I ate at the c19 dining hall, [very friendly person helped me out with the food selection I might add :)] It seems like its INCREDIBLY easy to take out dorm food.

Rules towards it?
It’s a crime. It’s considered “Stealing” Food.

What happens?
Depends on the person who catch you and where you steal food but at least with College 9/10’s Dining Hall, the consequences could be anywhere from giving back the food or the manager takes your Student ID and calls the cops.

Word of Advice: If you do decide to take food, don’t be stupid enough to do it out in the open. Honestly, it’s not that hard to take food without getting caught.

The managers are ALOT more strict about having backpacks in the dining hall because so many people got caught. But if you wear a hoodie or have big pockets, you can easily take a burrito out as well as some fries AND get away with it.

-From someone that used to work at the dining hall.

Honestly it is but apparently it has happened more than a couple times. I bet the cops give a warning to the person that got caught but still. Just be careful and you’ll be fine.

You can just walk out with food. I’ve walked out with a couples sandwiches. The workers don’t really care. Just the chef and the white lady that always looks mad.

What does that mean to “walk out with food”, can’t you put leftovers in a box and eat it later if you’re finished eating? Anything less would seem like a big waste of food, and slightly hypocritical.

I was wondering about that also! Are you allowed to take the leftovers you don’t eat back home?? I also saw on the food website that you are allowed one to go meal a day,but you Need to purchase the reusable tray! If you’re not allowed to take it home that is total BS!! If the campus is one of the biggest so called envir

You’re not supposed to have leftovers. It’s all-you-can-eat for the 5/7 day meal plans. And you get unlimited meals on the specified days of the week. You could eat lunch, walk out of the dining hall, then walk right back in for no extra charge.

If you have a 50-meal plan, that means it’s still all-you-can-eat, but you can only enter the dining hall the specified number of times a quarter.

You serve yourself. Very few dishes are served in a manner where the portions are pre-determined. You walk around and take however many spoonfuls of the item you want. You’re supposed to not take more than you’ll eat this way. They even have little cups everywhere so you taste test food, so you’ll be less likely to take something you won’t eat.

Considering how much **** the people that work at the dining halls have stolen, it’s not that big of a deal. A couple of my roommates (who work at different dining halls) have been given entire packages of stuff before. Work at the dining hall–it seems like a sweet deal.
I knew a girl who, whenever she set foot in the DH, would take a bunch of stuff out with her in her bag. It’s especially easy to do at Porter where the backpack racks are right next to the tables.
I’ve found the C8 dining hall to be the most lax though. I’ve walked out with whole pieces of pizza and they barely bat an eyelash. People walk out with 3, 4 cookies… I think it really depends on where you go.
