Dining plan? platinum? surprise pack?

I was wondering what the surprise pack is in the platinum dining plan at Drexel. I know it's a 'surprise' but I just want to know, because it might just be a waste. If anybody has any clue please feel free to help out!

if we knew what was in it, it wouldn’t be a “surprise” pack lol

But seriously, if you compare the dining plans, it depends whether you think you will use mostly dining dollars (DD) or mostly meal passes.

gold $200 DD and unlimited meal passes ($1830)
blue $475 DD and 12 meal passes per week ($1830)
platinum $550 DD and 12 meal passes per week plus 5 guest passes ($1915)

based on my experience with a daughter at another school, I would go with either blue or platinum because you probably will get tired of the dining hall and the dining dollars give you more variety

Well they may be a surprise, but I can tell you from experience this past year…

Every term they have (for about a week) the platinum plan prizes out in the front of the dining hall, and if you have a platinum plan they mark you down once you get yours. I think they do this about once a quarter-- from what I remember one quarter it was iPod speakers (cheap ones though), I think a small backpack with “Drexel Dining Services” another. I mean, they were okay. Nice as perks if you were going to buy the plan anyway, not good enough to go out of your way for.

Anyway, yeah, get as many dining dollars as possible. Twelve meals per week is a lot-- I only used about 5-7 a week and tried to eat at the dining hall as much as I could. The dining hall is a decent walk from the dorms so it’s such a pain if you just want to go down and eat, even if you’re going religiously with a group of people. Right by the dorms is the Northside Terrace, with Chick-fil-A, Curritos, Subway, a sushi take-out bar and “The Market,” a convenience store with over-priced groceries (some things like milk and eggs, but mostly snacks, some freezer items). These all use dining dollars. As do a few other places around campus:

Everyone I know who had the gold plan immediately regreted it. Just get as many dining dollars as possible. Trust me on this one.

Get the blue plan, honestly the platinum plan is not work the extra money. The Gold Plan seems great on paper but I guarantee that you will be sick to death of the dining hall by week 5 if that is all you are eating. I had the Blue Plan and never used all 12 meals per week, the more dining dollars the better.
