Dinner Recommendations for Orientation

Does anyone have recommendations for dinner during Orientation? It doesn't look like there's anything planned for the students generally for Friday and the Family Schedule of Events suggests that parents "bid your student farewell over dinner at an establishment of your choice" 4:30 - 7:00 Saturday evening. We've eaten at Rulloffs and on Campus during our visits and enjoyed both, but would like to experience something new and give D an off campus experience. Not too fancy, since we'll be orienting all day and I'm sure she won't be wanting to spend much more time with us than necessary. Or do most parents leave by Saturday afternoon?

Moosewood - very famous and very "Ithaca"

downtown just off the Commons -

also, lost dog cafe - just outside of the commons.

i totally second lost dog cafe

get the sweet potato fries....they are to die for.

If you want something nicer, try:

John Thomas Steakhouse - Danby Road right outside of ithaca - Great steak, great atmosphere - it's got a friendly, old school feel to it and might be the best restaurant in Tompkins county.

The Heights Cafe and Grill - Cayuga Heights - another place for good steak/wine, but also has unique dishes (especially seafood) and comfortable decor and atmosphere

Willow Restaurant - Right by fall creek - has a good tasting menu

Madeline's - Commons - known for dessert, also has great seafood

Thai Cuisine - On meadow street (rt 13) across from Wegmans', fancy thai food

Maxie's Supper Club - open late, casual cajun comfort food

Joe's Italian - casual italian dishes

Just a Taste - wine/tapas bar on commons, great seasonal menu

Lucatelli's - Northern italian on Elmira Road

Zaza's - Rt 13 - Italian place, best decor of the bunch

Olivia - East Hill plaza area - Contemporary American decor and food.

boatyard grill

boatyard is like an expensive version of chili's food... their only saving grace is that they take city bucks...but they won't split the check more than 3 ways.

plus boatyard doesn't take reservations... neither does maxies by the way

boatyard is really good too...its nice to go when there is live music which is, i think, every friday night
