Dinner with the Dean

I hear through the grapevine that Dean Larrimore and his wife have set a goal of inviting every Swarthmore student to dinner at their house at least once during a student's four years at the school. I'm not sure they can do it as it will mean dinner guests at least once a week. But, I like the message Dean Larrimore is sending to the faculty, staff, and students.

A very ambitious goal, I would say..hope he consulted with his wife before he made the announcement. 340 guests on average a year just from the college, on top of their normal social life!
:)

My Ds whose only compliant about Swarthmore is the food at Sharples is always looking for a “free” meal. She has several stories about how she was able to get a meal just by going to an event and setting through a presentation of some kind. The best of course, is to go to the event, eat the food, and then wiggle out of the presentation. The ambiguities and pleasantness of Ds answers to questions about the morality of all of this were such that the father is sure the Ds is going to be a very successful lawyer someday. In any event the crime is certainly less than the father’s college career when, on several occasions, he actually stole food from banquet trays while it was being served.

One story of the free meal goes like this. It was perfect I was at the table nearest the door, they served a full meal, and I was just about to head for the door when Dean Larimore came in and set down right beside me. I couldn’t leave with the Dean there, he ruined my whole plan.

I bet, she takes him up on the free meal anyway.

My Daughter is a freshman at Swat this term and her only complaint is about the food ! It seems to be an ongoing problem .

I'm currently a freshman, and the food really isn't that bad. Some days are definitely not great, but some days they do have food I really enjoy (most are in between) - the only thing that isn't that great is that it gets tiresome on the same meal rotation, but that would happen anywhere. :]

Well put.........as a mom I know what you mean. The menu at home repeats itself a bit too often. I wish they had healthier options for my child and not so much fried food.

M to Girls welcome to the Swarthmore community

Swat "11 all of the best and good luck to you at SC

Thanks so much. We look forward to a wonderful 4 years. Now we begin the search for our HS Jr. interested in Pre-Law and Woman's Studies along with International Studies and a good travel abroad program. All suggestions appreciated.

Hah. Wait til your kids live in an apartment for a summer, cooking and doing dishes every night, particularly for college age guys (closely related to a swarm of locusts). I've never seen complaints about Sharples change so fast!

ID… your wisdom always rings true.
