Direct Admit to Daniels - - How can you tell?

My son was thrilled to be admitted to University of Denver today, and he thus far has received only an email notification.

He said the Common App does not permit you to select a school to apply to - - only a major (he picked Accounting).

The email does not say he was admitted to the business school. Will the letter he receives indicate which school is has been accepted to?

Many thanks to anyone who might know the answer to this question! Otherwise, I guess I’ll have him ask his admissions rep?

As far as I know, Daniels does not do direct admits. You have to take the prerequisite courses as a Freshman (math, econ, etc) and then apply to Daniels in the Spring.

Thanks so much for chiming in, socal. It says on the website that there are direct admissions to Daniels, but definitely sounds like a limited number.

Hopefully admission packets arrive soon so we can see merit awards and other details. My daughter received the portal notification on Monday as well.

My daughter was admitted on Monday too!

So happy for your daughters!!! Well as it turns out, my son was accepted to his ED school and had to withdraw his Denver application. So I guess my question is no longer relevant. But we liked Denver a lot, and what a great city to be in for four years!

When you get the admission packet with merit aid you will also receive a letter stating you have gained direct admission to the business school, when I got my packet there was another piece of paper offering me direct admission. This was the most recent year as well so they should get that if they do.

No they do direct admissions

Thanks for sharing that @dirtysprangz19. just curious, did you have business related extracurriculars? Or high SAT scores? Will you attend? If so, I hope it is terrific! We did like our visit.

My son immediately withdrew his application, but his packet must have been en route already. There was a separate letter from the business school that indicated he would need to apply to the business program during sophomore year.

That would have been a total non starter for us frankly. Not paying high private school tuition and taking the chance he might not be able to pursue the course of study he wants. Especially since admission is not strictly based on GPA. Fortunately, he was admitted to the School of Management at the ED school he applied. Which is oddly more competitive, but who knows exactly how decisions are made.

No merit aid either but that wouldn’t be a key factor in the decision for us.

I had business extracurricular yes! I was involved in DECA and FBLA and made the state conference three times, and I did have high test scores though not the SAT I did the ACT. I got a 32 on the ACT and yes I do plan on attending! Good luck to your son!

That’s terrific @dirtysprangz19!!! Sounds like you were an excellent candidate, and I am so glad your efforts were duly recognized! Congratulations on making it into an excellent program and thank you very much for the good wishes.

We’re visiting DU tomorrow, looking forward to seeing it. We’ll do the regular tour and we have a meeting at Daniels as well. My daughter keeps forgetting that the tables are turned now that she’s an admitted student.

We have a family friend who is a freshman at DU, so we’ll try to meet her for lunch. I’ll report back.
