Direct Entry Nursing

My daughter is looking to go a College with a direct entry nursing program. She attends a Catholic College Prep HS on LI.

GPA-3.8
SAT 550V/550M.

EC’s when done
Cross Country-4 yr
Indoor Track-4 yr
Outdoor Track 4yr
Student Leaders Team 2yr
Religious Retreat guild 2yr
Special Needs Camp Councellor-4Yr
Bible Camp Councellor-4yr
150 hours volunteer @ Hospital

She is looking at for a small to mid sized Catholic school.
Sacred Heart, St. Anselm’s Salve Regina, Le Moyne, U of Scranton, Villanova, BC, Georgetown, Faifield, Desalles, Misericordia. Also SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Plattburgh.

Any of these truly a reach?
What do you think her chances are at each?

Thanks

Your best bet is to email or call each of the schools and get the middle 50% for the SAT and ACT and the acceptance rate for the nursing program. I do know that even test optional schools may not be for the nursing program.

Check the common data set at each of the schools to see where your daughter’s GPA and SAT scores fall. Some schools have higher requirements for direct admit nursing. Is the GPA weighted or unweighted, what is the rigor of the courses that she has taken. Based upon this info, you can determine which schools would be a reach, match and safety. Her SAT scores appear low for Villanova, BC, Georgetown, Sacred Heart, these would be reach schools. Fairfield, St. Anselms, Salve Regina, U of Scraton. Safety, Le Moyne.

Has your daughter taken any ACT practice tests, some students perfom better with this testing.

What I posted was hypothetical. She is a rising junior in HS. This is what she is on track for currently and the test scores are actually PSAT. GPA is unweighted and about half of her classes are honors. I think if she gets her scores up she’ll be fine. Interesting that you grouped Sacred Heart with BC, Nova and Georgetown. I know it’s come a long way but was looking at it in same light as Fairfield and Scranton.

Sacred Heart is not very selective. If you look at the ACT distribution, 50% of the class scored 18 - 23, which is twice St. Anslem.

You really have to get nursing-specific admittance data.

also find out what factors they consider for nursing admits. Some colleges look for experience in the field (paid or volunteer)

I agree that if you can get data specific to the nursing program that would be great, but it isn’t always available. Based on the overall school profile, I would say that Gtown, BC, Villanova are reaches and likely Gtown and BC are out of reach unless the SATs go up. I’d classify SUNY Binghamton and Fairfield as high matches. You seem to have a well thought out list of schools with a good range of schools. Best of luck going through the process.
