Do you know how many of the 365 words in Direct hits are contained in Barron`s 3500 mini-dictionary.I am almost done with the 3500 and want to know if i need DH

All the DH are Barron's list, afaik.

afaik ????

afaik = as far as i know

edit:
i thought i'd point out how the timing of the replies is consecutive integers(yes im practicing SAT math a lot :p)

You probably don't need DH after memorizing Barrons. It would've been better, however, had you studied DH alone and not Barrons. Barrons 3500 is a horrible, horrible vocab list. However, what's done is done.

Why is it horrible ?It was reaaally difficult but i am not native speaker and even though many of the words memorized are not needed for the SAT ,they enrich my vocabulary.

The 3500 words were compiled to help people do better on the sentence completions. In that respect, they fail - you can spend 1/10 of the time studying DH and doing just as well. If you want to enrich your vocabulary overall, then it's OK.

Ivan_Stanchev, if you have quite a bit of time till the SAT and till college admissions, Barrons 3500 is a good idea that will serve you well in your later academic readings.

I believe jamesford meant it's a horrible thing for the SAT, which it genuinely is because it wastes time when you're fat better off just doing Direct Hits. However, I guess it's good that you've done Barrons 3500. Now, just glance through other vocab lists. Odds are Barrons has most but if they don't just add a few here and there to your vocab knowledge. But honestly, as an international who hasn't studied much vocab specifically for the SAT, I'd guess that you don't need it.

SO after i memorized these 3500 i will now the ones in DH + much more.I cant see how this can harm me.Yes i have a lot of time .I started learning these words in July and i am taking the SAT in January.I will apply to colleges in 2010

you're applying in 2010?! do you mean applying to start school in fall 2010 or you'll apply at the end of 2010 to start in fall 2011?

I am applying to start in fall 2010

My friend, Ivan, I'd suggest you skim, just skim through the Direct Hits' 365 words and their definitions for some .....revision :D. Then, should you encouter words that are differently defined in the two books, you can delve into the dictionaries again to reconcile their differences or to suffice your knowledge of these words. As for those words that are similarly defined in the two books, then skip them completely.

Btw, how are you? (I'm totally screwed up these days T___T)

I havent seen you online on skype for a while ;]

Yeah, I've been a lil bit busy lately. Worked on SAT practice tests for this Dec test. Wrote brochures for my club. Taught a 11 year-old kid... Every evening I just log in to CC, post some comments and sign out. Still, I think I can manage these stuffs well. Dying to see you again next week ^^

Good luck on Dec SAT .I will take it in January and maybe May.
