Direct Hits vs Essential 500?

Which book is better for PSAT and SAT vocab studying, in your opinion? Also, which edition of Direct Hits is the best? Also, side note, are any vocab books even worth the money, or should I just learn from free online lists? Any and all advice appreciated!! :D

I just used direct hits, so I’m not fully entitled to making a distinction between the two books. I did find a free list on quizlet and studied off of that, and most of the words on the SAT actually were consistent with direct hits. I think that out of all of the vocab questions on the actual exam, there was only one question of which I was not sure the answer to.
I also studied off of the sparknotes 1000, but I never got through all of them- I’d say a good third though. Same with Barron’s. I kind of just searched vocab lists and studied off of them.

I have direct hits - both the core vocab and toughest vocab editions - and it’s awesome!

Both are pretty much the same. The Essential 500 is basically an updated version of the Direct Hit books. I’d get them both if you can afford it but if not, I’d recommend the Essential 500.
