Can I get comments/experiences about this book and does it really help/increase your critical reading score for the SAT?
Also, is there a free download/pdf/copy online?
Thank you.

Ignore my inquiry for a free download, that is my fault for violating the rules.
I’m still seeking for comments/experiences about Essential 500.
Should I get Essential 500 or the 5th edition of Direct Hits? What are the differences other than the publication date? I want to decide on one soon. Or should I get both, if there’s any benefit to that?

I’m wondering why you’d want to buy either one.

You already either know these words OR you’d be able to define them in context.

I am weak in sentence completions, and I read Essential 500 and Direct Hits would be useful in tackling the difficult words.
Though, I still wish to hear peoples’ experiences/feedback as it would help.

The Essential 500 Words is a GREAT book! Larry Krieger is very good at “augmenting your SAT lexicon” (he uses that phrase quite frequently).

There are also so many unforgettable (or indelible) pop culture references.

Hint: Do what miners do except do it on the internet
OT: DH definitely better, you should know 480/500 of Larry Kriegers essential words anyways, its very very basic.

I have the 300 words and I find his explanations towards words very very helpful in memorizing and knowing the correct usage

I ordered Essential 500 two days ago, but do you think I should also get the Direct Hits Volumes 1 and 2 also?

I have DH volume 1 & 2. IMO they are decent and pretty self-explanatory. Larry’s annotation and interpretation help you remember the words well. But I urge you to learn more from other sources because some sentence completion questions have really advance vocabs.

@benjamin8451: If you’re saying to study from other sources in addition, does that mean the difficult words aren’t in the DH volumes and/or Essential?

Also thank you to the person messaging me. The post minimum requirement is stopping me but I still want to express my gratitude for the comments.

“augmenting your SAT lexicon” (he uses that phrase quite frequently)

Ah, the irony…

It’s like an anti advertisement for his book.

Yes I don’t think DH 1 & 2 cover 100% of the SC words on sat.
If you are avid reader, you should really read dense to acquire more vocabs.
I wouldn’t content with DH 1 & 2

What other prep books should I read then?

I’m also reading the novel “Frankenstein” with the SAT words marked it. I plan on checking out the other books marked with SAT words if I have time.
