Haven't heard this book on CC for a while? Cuz when I first started (I'm serious) people on this site worshipped it daily and whenever anyone says "I have problem with the reading section" another CC-er would respond, "DIRECT HITS!"

So what happened to that? Is Direct Hits not as good anymore or something? Personally speaking DH 1 & 2 were useless. I knew like 300 of those words, but I'm still hovering around the low 600 mark.

So I need a new vocab book? Barron? What?

You really don’t need a book specifically for vocab, nor do you need to memorize hundreds of vocab words for the SAT. You should already know most words given on the SAT or be able to use process of elimination to get the correct answer for most of the vocab questions. It’s a better idea to learn roots, prefixes, and suffixes for words instead. It’s much more practical and a better use of your time. That way the hours you would have spent memorizing vocab words (most of which won’t even be on the test at all), could be spent practicing the reading passages which make up the bulk of the CR section.

Are there any books out there that help assist in this?

You’re probably right tho, however, there are some ridicilously difficult words you won’t see in context anywhere besides the SAT. The CR section is due for at least 4 or 5 of them.
