It says...
"List two persons with different U.S. addresses who do not live with you and who have known you for at least three years."

but it also says
"The first reference should be a parent or legal guardian."

But my parent lives with me? I am so confused. It kind of contradicts with the first statement. Am I supposed to use a parent for the first reference even though they live with me?

^My daughter’s MPN: “7. References: List two persons with different U.S. addresses who have known you for at least three years. The first reference should be a parent or legal guardian.”

I think it means the two references must have different addresses from each other, not different from you.

The first reference is your parent. The second reference can be another relative or friend, but can’t have the same address as your parent.

That stumped me too! I was completing with son yesterday and read it the same way - list your parent as a reference - but list references with a different address from you. But we entered father’s info - with same home address as student - and it worked. That direction could be clearer.
