i just got some info on my fin aid package for next year and a pretty big chunk of it was offered as a direct parent loan; wouldn't that be a PLUS loan? I thought there was an application process you had to complete before those were even offered. If I don't apply could that part of my package be taken away?

Yes, it’s not really financial aid they’re offering you and you do have to apply for the Plus loan and qualify. It’s completely optional so, if you have other resources, just ignore it.

That is for your parents. (it’s terrible for a school to put that in. I hope the school isn’t claiming to “meet need”)

If a big chunk of your FA package is a Direct Plus loan, then you got a lousy package.

If your parents can’t borrow that money, how will you pay for school?

What school is this?

Is that school your only option?

What else is in your FA package?
