Hello, where is the best University to do Directing BFA program?
NYU, CMU, UMICH, give me some advice please
Have you been admitted to all of them? I think it’s hard to beat Tisch for access to professional opportunities and exposure, but they’re all excellent. You should probably direct your query to the Theatre/Drama majors’ forum.
BU also has a fine program for directing. It is an MFA program, so you would do the BFA in Theatre Arts, which gives you an opportunity to direct projects (as well as do some acting if you like that, too!).
UNCSA has a very nice program as well, but you kind of have to dig for it! They only accept two to three students a year and don’t advertise it as heavily as their other programs, but it seemed pretty great when I looked into it. Very actor centric, though - Directors complete two full years of the acting track before delving into directing work. This is either a huge blessing or a major setback, depending upon your feelings on acting.
And DePaul has a great directing program, too, though it’s technically a Theatre Arts BFA with a Directing concentration. Waiting to hear back from a few schools, but I’m head over heels for DePaul and will probably be there as a directing student next year.
No, I am waiting the answers. How hard they are to be admitted? How do I direct to Theatre/Drama majors fórum?
My daughters close friend is at Pace and he loves it! Hes a freshman directing major. He’s an assistant on an off Broadway show already. Their program is growing like crazy and is in NYC as well.
