DIs

I am impressed with what I've seen of the DIs this year (not that I have anything to compare it to). The ones that I was watching on Thursday took their role very seriously, albeit I'm sure they were loving it...

What does it take to be a DI? Is it strictly volunteer? What sort of training is involved?

Also, I notice the DIs wear yellow PT shirts, and others are wearing red. What's the story there?

Thanks again to all of you - Midshipmen and Parents that are participating on this board...

yellow is for DI's, red is for OIC's (first class officers) and orange is for waterfront trainers

some DI's were forced into doing it because enough didnt volunteer so if anyone got caught doing even the slightest thing wrong in like a three day span by Lt. Commander Ragin they were forced to be DI's. training for them is an indoc of their own. they are treated like candidates for ten days only their DI's are real, Lt. Commander Ragin and Gunnery Sergeant Howser, which is quite a bit worse than the DI's the candidates have to deal with

I figured as much - kind of a "volunteer or be volunteered" type sit. Thanks again for the info....

Several wanted to be Assistant D.I's this year but due to other obligations, could not. In the letters from my son last year, he said that the D.I's had his full respect because they worked harder than the candidates. They were up before them & had long hours after the candidates went to bed. He said the hardest one he had was A.D.I. Woods. He could have chopped her head off & thrown her into Long Island Sound a few times. I have written proof.... :) Today he told me that he was glad he had her for his training. That she is truly the best. This year, she is a D.I. for 3rd company. So, I'm thinking they may be hating her at the moment, but then will come to respect her and as time passes, admire her. Maybe. ;)

LFWB wanted to be a DI, but his sea year ship left on June 21. I understand Ragin was apoplectic.

Good thing he didn't name his rifle after her. Last year there was a kid in 4th Co that named his rifle "Sexy Marino" after his ADI. She may still have him doing push ups!

LOL LOL Too funny LFWBDad. I have a similar story but thought it best not to share. LOL I think they tend to get a hysterical sense of humor during Indoc. Wouldn't ya tho. :) I know they find some humor during their stressful days.

Sleep well Candidates. "GET ON MY LINE" will be coming waaay to early.

ya that kid in 4th co named his rifle that because the SDI told him too but forgot to tell marino about the whole thing so when the kid said the name she flipped out, it was pretty funny. that kid lived across the hall from me all year and during indoc him me and our two roommates were pretty much the trouble makers on flight deck, we made our adis break down laughing every night

I think one of the best "rifle" stories was w/ the class of 2000. One kid named his rifle after his DI, we'll call her Smith. This kid also had a habit of banging the butt of the rifle on the ground when changing positions. Well one of the other DI's got the name of his rifle and w/out realizing what he was truly asking asked "Candidate, would you bang Smith on the ground?" To which he responded "Sir, yes sir" I'm not sure that kid ever lived that down

That is hysterical you guys! LOL

bvwhiteboy! You weren't supposed to make the D.I.'s loose their bearing! They were suppose to do that to you! Thats too funny. Well, atleast we know that a few laughs are to be had during these rough Indoc days.
